Trailer Released for Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, Shot on Board Carnival Dream

This weekend marked the premiere of the official trailer for ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: CHIPWRECKED!, the third installment of the blockbuster movie franchise produced by Fox 2000 Pictures that was shot aboard the Carnival Dream.  The trailer, which can be viewed here, is being shown in theaters nationwide, with the movie released in December.

Filming took place primarily on Carnival Dream’s open decks with scenes featuring actor Jason Lee (reprising his role as Dave Seville) and the antics of the three beloved chipmunks shot within the ship’s expansive outdoor recreation areas.

Tropical ports on the Carnival Dream’s western Caribbean itinerary, including Cozumel, Roatan, Belize and Costa Maya, also provided a stunning backdrop for many of the movie’s shipboard scenes.

The first two films grossed over $804 million worldwide.  Alvin and the Chipmunks was the number-one grossing family live-action DVD of 2008, while Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel has been the best-selling family DVD since its release in March 2010.

Twentieth Century Fox releases ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: CHIPWRECKED! in theaters everywhere December 16, 2011.

BIGGER IS NOT BETTER

Gene Sloan, a travel writer for USA TODAY, wrote on his CRUISE LOG BLOG a post about the size of the new cruise ships.  To read the full post go to his blog at http://www.usatoday.com/travel/cruises/item.aspx?type=blog&ak=77918.blog#Close

Pat and I sailed on the Carnival Dream last December and will be sailing again on 2/27/10. We think that the Carnival Dream is the largest ship we would want to sail on. After all the walking we did on the Carnival Dream our legs were killing us.

What do you think is the perfect size for the new ships?

Big Ed’s EVIL CREW does the Carnival Dream

Evil Crew on the Carnival Dream

Big Ed’s Evil Crew On the Carnival Dream. We had a great time with John as we presented him with many gifts. Some of the gifts were EVIL from “Farts R Us”. But when we gave John $1000.00 to be used for Kye’s Education Fund John was speechless.

Now it wouldn’t be a Bloggers Cruise without an Evil Crew cake. Since we have to read all John’s toilet humour on his blog we came up with this Toilet Cake with the help of Ken Bryne Maitre D and the Chef of the Carnival Dream. All you see is edible even the floaters in the bowl. Thank You guys for that cake.

Evil Crew Does Fishlips

Crew at Fishlips

It was a wonderful night at Fishlips in Port Canaveral. Princess Elaine picked out and set up a great place for the Evil Crew to meet before we all leave on The Carnival Dream. There was much hugging as we all arrived and even more hugging all night long. Pictures were being taken on both cell phones and cameras. Some already posted by Owen Squires on facebook. I will post all mine once I get back home. Cell phones were being passed around to talk to those in the Boo Hoo boat (those not able to be with us for this bloggers cruise). Pat even called John who is out at sea on the Carnival Dream on it’s way to Port Canaveral. We all yelled Hi to John. We got to see the Carnival Pride leave port and we were all waving to those on deck. So it was a great start to what will be a great 9 day cruise on the Carnival Dream Thank you my Princess Elaine for putting this all together for the Evil Crew even though you will not be going with us on the cruise. I know how much you wanted to go and how much it will hurt tomorrow as you stand there and wave to us as we leave the port.

The CARNIVAL DREAM is the newest and largest ship in the CARNIVAL fleet. It’s home port will be Port Canaveral, Florida. Here is a link to Marcia Gay Harden’s bio http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcia_Gay_Harden

In celebration of the launch of its newest, largest and most family-friendly “Fun Ship” ever, Carnival Cruise Lines announces that Academy Award-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden will serve as godmother of the new Carnival Dream and will unveil the world’s largest children’s book in New York City today, along with a major, multi-year partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

New Yorker and mother of three, Harden will officially name the new ship when it makes its North American debut in New York on November 12, 2009. In honor of Carnival Dream’s much-anticipated arrival, the Tony Award-winning actress will unveil Carnival’s Big Book of Dreams – measuring 15.5 feet high by 20 feet wide – in New York City’s Rockefeller Center today and will conduct a special reading of the larger-than-life story to dozens of schoolchildren. Inspired by the imaginative dreams of children who sailed on Carnival Cruise Lines this spring, “The Dream Plucker of Perrysport” tells the tale of a group of young friends who find themselves on a unique adventure after they encounter a furry orange monster in a quest to remember their dreams. The book will remain on display at Rockefeller Center November 6 and 7 as part of a series of free, activity-filled Carnival “Dream Big” events for the whole family.

“As a mother and actress driven by the idea of dreaming big, I’m honored to take on this new role as godmother of Carnival’s largest-ever ship and to help bring the Big Book of Dreams to life for local children,” said Marcia Gay Harden. “I’m also inspired by Carnival’s dedication to support and encourage all kids to dream big through its partnership with St. Jude.”

During the three-year partnership with St. Jude, Carnival Cruise Lines’ goal is to raise $3 million to help achieve the hospital’s mission of finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic illnesses. To support the hospital, under the theme “Care to Play,” Carnival is creating a number of fun, interactive on-board fundraising activities that will involve guest participation. Carnival will also donate hundreds of kid-sized copies of “The Dream Plucker of Perrysport” to the hospital.

“We’re excited to have a dream-worthy lineup of activities to celebrate the launch of the Carnival Dream, including the talented Marcia Gay Harden as godmother, and to bring kid’s dreams to life in the biggest children’s book ever,” said Carnival President and CEO Gerry Cahill. “We are also very proud and honored to work with St. Jude to further support its wonderful work and inspire the children and families of St. Jude to never lose sight of their dreams.”

“We are so fortunate to work with compassionate companies like Carnival,” said Richard C. Shadyac Jr., Chief Executive Officer of ALSAC, the fundraising organization of St. Jude. “Every dollar donated by Carnival and its guests through the Care to Play fundraising activities will help St. Jude continue its efforts in finding the cures and providing the treatments that will save children’s lives. On behalf of everyone at St. Jude, thank you.”

And the winner is.

And the winner is.

Carnival’s President and CEO Gerry Cahill and Senior Cruise Director John Heald couldn’t wait for the Carnival Dream’s inaugural cruise to check out the ship’s spectacular new WaterWorks aqua park.

During a special three-day repositioning cruise from Trieste to Rome (Civitavecchia) this weekend, Cahill and Heald spent an afternoon “test riding” every slide in the expansive facility – from the DrainPipe featuring a unique funnel-style design to the 303-foot-long Twister water slide, the longest in cruising.  The highlight of the day was a race down the 82-foot-long dual-lane racing slide, which Heald was declared the winner.

It was all in good fun and an excellent way to showcase the many innovative facilities and features of the spectacular 130,000-ton “Fun Ship,” the largest in the Carnival fleet which embarked on its maiden voyage earlier today.

Carnival Dream will operate a series of 12-day European voyages from Rome (Civitavecchia) through October then reposition to New York for a pair of eight-day Caribbean voyages.  The ship will then reposition to Port Canaveral for a special nine-day before launching year-round seven-day Caribbean service Dec. 12.
