My condolences for your loss. Is this Pat’s brother who was in the hospital?
May you be wraped in His comforting arms of love during this time.
Lauren, Yes this was Pat’s brother, Jerry.
Dear Ed and Pat,
My deepest sympathies on the loss of Jerry. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Pat and Ed,
So sorry to hear about your loss. Prayers, thoughts and hugs are coming your way.
God will hold you thru this time of grief and the friends and family you have will care for you at this time. My deepest sympathy. Please give this poem to Pat for me. It is one that I have had with me since the loss of my first husband in 1977. It is always at my desk. For me it helped comfort. I hope it does her.
Learn With Every Goodbye
After a while, you learn the subtle difference
between holding a hand and chaining a soul,
And you learn that love doesn’t mean leaning
And company doesn’t mean security,
And you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts
And presents aren’t promises,
And you begin to accept your defeats
With the grace of a woman,
not the grief of a child,
And learn to build all your roads on today
Because tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain for plans,
And futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight
And after a while, you learn That even sunshine burns if you get too much.
So you plant your own garden
and decorate your own soul,
Instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure…
That you really are strong
And you really do have worth
And you learn
With every goodbye, you learn.
Our thoughts & prayers are with you and Pat in this difficult time. Here is a long-distance hug for both of you !!

I just found out about this a few minutes ago.
My surgery yesterday went fine…but I really out of it until this morning.
Please know that while his body may be gone, nothing can take away the memories of the blessing you both were to him.
My dear Pat and Ed,
I can only say how sorry I am. Pat as we sat outside Thursday night in NOLA, I could feel how much you loved Jerry. If I could feel it in that short time we spent together, I’m sure Jerry knew. Just remember he is in a much better place right now. When you have a tough day, lean on Ed and remember you have this family that loves you and will be here for you.
You both are in my prayers,
