A weblog started by a popular cruise director at Carnival Cruise Lines

has become so popular that Carnival has created a seven-night cruise

next January for readers of the blog. The Jan. 19-26 cruise will visit

three favorite ports of John Heald, cruise director on the Carnival Freedom,

including Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Georgetown, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel,

Mexico. Prices start at $599 per person.

Carnival said Heald’s blog has attracted 200,000 visits since it was

started in March as a way of promoting the debut of 2,974-passenger

Freedom. The ship began sailing from Venice, Italy, March 11, and

will move to Miami in November. Heald left a London banking job in 1986

to become a Carnival bar tender and by 2004 had worked his way up

to become senior cruise director, the only one in Carnival’s fleet. On the

blog, Heald makes jokes about shipboard life and doles out advice to

cruise passengers who write in with questions. Heald’s blog can be

viewed at carnival.com/freedom.
